Marketing Mistake – 7 Mistakes To Avoid
If you will look at it closely, internet marketing seems so easy right? All you have to do is build a website, acquire some keywords on Google, and then watch the world gather to your site to purchase the products / services that you offer. However, in real life nothing is really that easy and because of that there are many online entrepreneurs who still make marketing mistakes.
Most marketing mistakes that are made online are from wrong assumptions. New online entrepreneurs think that designing their website, having their website published, marketing their product or service, and measuring the results are separate activities which of course are not true.
So to make a success out of your business, let us take a look at common marketing mistakes and try not to do these with our business.
Marketing Mistake #1: Not using the appropriate strategy
The success of any business be it offline or online depends on the strategies you use to reach your goal. Thinking that any strategy will work for your online business is a marketing mistake that can be easily avoided. As SEO is the perfect tool for online campaigning of your business, planning each and every step is important to your goal successfully.
Marketing Mistake #2: Not doing anything to implement your plan
Aside from planning what is best for your online business you also have to think of how you can get online visibility for your business. In the online business world where search engines are the best players, you have to make your website credible enough to get the attention of the search engines. Your rankings on the search engine result pages decide your online visibility status
Marketing Mistake #3: Assuming everything is about keyword advertising
We encounter a lot online marketers who invest a lot of their capital into pay-per-click search and in doing so they ignore organic search. This is one of the major marketing mistakes some entrepreneurs make. Entities like Google benefit from this costly marketing mistake. I am not saying that investing in Google is bad, it’s just that we should not ignore organic search.
A lot of marketers seem to forget that a Top-Ten search result is just as powerful as an ad that amounts to $5. In my opinion organic search is more credible than any paid advertisement out there.
So, instead of investing heavily and focusing too much on keyword advertising, you have to strike a balance with organic search, newsletters, email, blogs, and all the other marketing vehicles available on the web today. There are many options available to online marketers and most of them will help you lower your overall cost per click.
Marketing Mistake #4: Attractive design is good marketing
Attractive design does not always mean that you will make a sale out of every visitor you get. Yes they may go to your website and look around however if it is not appropriate for them I do not think they will stick around and buy from you. What I am trying to say is that, an attractive website is a good thing but an appropriate website is of course far better.
There are many websites out there which are published according to what the owner likes. Obviously, these websites do not address the needs of the customer. Your website may have a flashy presentation and all which is really bad however, it might turn-off potential customers who just want to buy your product and get it over with right away
A website is a very powerful tool to an online business, the main purpose of your website is to sell your products/services. Around 99% percent of the websites we see today do not have an effective sales function. Most sites are full of glittery graphics or “eye candy” which tries to wow the audience with the way they look, instead of offering valuable information people need to make an informed decision.
Marketing Mistake #5: Not paying attention to measurement
Being able to measure your results is one of the benefits of doing online business. Because if you are a traditional television ad, you basically have no idea whatsoever how many television viewers purchase your product right after they see your advertisement.
But with an online advertisement you know exactly how many people take action right after they see your presentation. But sad to say not many businesses maximize this feature, which is of course a marketing mistake.
Marketing Mistake #6: Not knowing the importance of Return on Investment
When it comes to internet marketing, some people overlook the most important question they should be asking themselves: Am I getting a decent return on investment? Overlooking this important question is a marketing mistake made by a lot of people.
However no one can blame these entrepreneurs since their information came from different people they know. These people who gave them this information may be their fellow entrepreneurs, their web designer, a friend, all saying that measuring your return on investment is just not possible.
The fact is that you can actually lessen spending on marketing and at the same time boost lead and sales generation by measuring results and adjusting as you go along. Remember the objective is not to generate more traffic but to grow your business.
Marketing Mistake #7: Using the wrong channel to advertise
There are plenty of means and ways to advertise online. Some people purchase traffic, while some people use free advertising, and there is pay-per-click advertising as well. Whatever method you choose, consider your advertising budget and the quality of the visitors the different types of advertising methods will produce.
One of the most common marketing mistakes is using the wrong channel for advertisement because not only will you not achieve your goal, you won’t be able to reach your required return on investment as well and as a result your business will be scoring losses instead of profits.
