Making a Website – Basic Things to Know in Making a Website
Every business nowadays seems to be running on a tight budget. And that is not really surprising with the way things have been in the past couple of months. Who is not operating on a tight budget these days?
Entrepreneurs have a lot of worrying in their hands starting from consumer’s disposable income to taxes; they have to cut costs in order to prepare for whatever is unexpected.
However, all these negative things cannot deter someone if they are serious enough to engage in online business. The best way to let people know of your presence online is by making a website. I think a lot of people put plenty of effort and money in making a website.
But the truth is making a website does not have to burn a hole in your pocket. What you need is equip yourself with the right knowledge and you should be able to start making a website for your business. Here are some things that you should know when making a website.
Making a Website Basics #1: Register your domain name
In making a website the most basic thing that you should know is that you need a domain name. Your domain name should reflect your business name, so it should be something catchy and something that people can easily remember.
As soon as you are able to come up with a list of potential domain names you need to check with websites like goaddy.com if your domain name is still available. Buying a name from someone else could cost you quite a bit of money, so I would suggest that you choose one that is available for registration.
Registration of domain names has become inexpensive in the past couple of years. If you are making a website you will find that domain prices have come down in price recently and can be found for as little as $6.95 with a reputable domain registrar.
Some companies run upwards of $35 per year however, there is hardly any difference as far as the quality of the domain is concerned. I would have to say that the only difference you will find is a few of the free benefits from certain registrars.
Making a Website Basics #2: How are you going to build your website?
Various options are available if you are making a website. You have the option to hire a web designer or do you build it from scratch or do you use an online website builder? These are different options available to you if you are making a website.
Like with anything else, each option will have its advantages and disadvantages. Before choosing which road to take into consideration your HTML knowledge, the amount of time you have and ultimately what your website is about.
If you are not knowledgeable nor do you have any interest in learning about HTML coding before making a website your best bet is to go with an online website builder. The only problem is that you lose some flexibility in regards to the site.
Making a Website Basics #3: Web hosting company
Another website making basic that you should about is that you have got to find a company that will serve as your web host. The web host’s function is to provide you with a space in their servers so that you can publish your website.
There is no reason for you to pay a lot of money for web hosting since there are companies out there taking advantage of people’s lack of knowledge about web hosting and charging $20 and $25 per month for very basic hosting that offers no help (web building tools) for beginners.
Search for other options available to you. There are web hosts who charge as low as $4.95 per month and offer more space and more features that will suit your needs.
HostGator is what I recommend because I use it and I am very happy with their service.
